How to Change the Favicon in Your Google Blogger Site (Step-by-Step Guide)
A custom favicon is a small but powerful branding element for your Google Blogger website.
It appears in the browser tab, bookmark lists, and search results—helping your site look more professional and recognizable. In this guide, I’ll show you how to upload a custom favicon in Blogger, optimize the file, and refresh your browser so the change appears immediately.
1. Check Your Current Favicon in the Browser Tab
Before updating your favicon, open your Blogger site and check the existing browser tab icon.
If you haven’t changed it yet, Blogger typically shows a default orange “B” icon.
2. Open the Favicon Settings in Blogger
To upload a custom favicon, go to: Blogger Dashboard → Settings → Basic → Favicon
Click the section to open the upload window.
3. Upload Your Custom Favicon File
Blogger will open a popup window allowing you to upload a square icon file.
Important favicon requirements:
- Size: 200 × 200 px (recommended)
- Format: PNG with transparent background
- File size: under 100 KB
Click Choose Icon File, select your PNG file, and confirm.
After uploading, click Save.
4. Verify That the New Favicon Appears in Settings
Once saved, the settings page will display your newly uploaded favicon.
This confirms that Blogger has stored your icon correctly.
5. Refresh Your Browser Cache to See the New Favicon
Even after saving, many browsers continue showing the old icon because of cached data.
To force refresh:
Press: Ctrl + F5 (Windows) / Cmd + Shift + R (Mac)
This performs a hard reload and clears cached favicon data.
After refreshing, you should now see your new favicon in the browser tab.
6. Tips for Better Branding
To maintain a consistent brand identity across your blog:
- Use favicon colors that match your Blogger template theme (UNICOSMOS uses purple, pink, orange accents)
- Keep the design simple and readable even at small sizes
- Test the icon on both light and dark browser themes
A clean favicon helps your blog look more polished and strengthens recognition on search results and social platforms.
