How to Update Social Media Icons in Your Free Blogger Template (Complete Guide)
If you are using a free Blogger template, one of the first things you should customize is your social media icons. Free templates include default SNS links (Facebook, WhatsApp, Telegram, etc.), and leaving them unchanged hurts branding and SEO.
This guide shows you how to replace all social icons—top header, sidebar, and footer—using the Blogger Layout editor.
1. Where Social Icons Appear in Your Blogger Template
Before editing, confirm where your template displays social icons:
- Top Header Icons (header-right area)
- Sidebar Social Plugin (right-side widget section)
- Footer Social Icons (bottom of the blog)
2. How to Edit Top Header Social Icons
- Go to Blogger Dashboard → Layout
- Find “Top Social” (or similar, depending on template)
- Click ✏️ Edit
- A popup titled Link List will appear
Replace links with your actual URLs
- Facebook → https://facebook.com/yourpage
- X (Twitter) → https://x.com/yourid
- Instagram → https://instagram.com/yourid
- Reddit → https://reddit.com/user/yourid
- Pinterest → https://pinterest.com/yourid
- YouTube → https://youtube.com/yourchannel
- Delete unnecessary services (trash icon)
- Press Save
3. How to Edit Sidebar Social Plugin
- Go to Layout → Sidebar → Social Plugin
- Click ✏️ Edit
- Update all social links the same way as above
- Save your changes
- Check your live blog to confirm icon updates
4. How to Edit Footer Social Icons
- Scroll down to Footer Area → Follow Us (or Social)
- Click ✏️ Edit
- Replace default URLs with your actual SNS URLs
- Save and refresh
5. Final Result: Updated Social Icons Across Entire Blog
After editing all three areas, your Blogger site will display social links consistent with your brand.
This improves:
- Brand trust
- CTR to your SNS channels
- SEO signals for entity-building
- Professional appearance of your free template
🧩 Notes & Tips
- Free templates may use different layout block names → Look for widgets named Social, Top Social, Follow Us, Link List, etc.
- Always remove default placeholder links (#) to avoid broken behavior
- Use full URLs, including https://
- You can reorder icons using the up/down arrows
